A pH decreaser is a chemical to lower water pH in pools/spas. Target pH: 7.2–7.8 (pools), 7.4–7.6 (spas). High pH reduces sanitizer efficiency, causes scale, and irritates skin.
1. Test pH: Treat if pH >7.8 (pools) or >7.6 (spas).
2. Dose Safely: 1–2 oz liquid/0.5–1 lb powder per 10,000 gallons (lowers pH ~0.2–0.3). Start with half-dose for small systems (e.g., 0.5 oz for 5,000 gallons).
3. Apply Correctly:
Liquid acid: Dilute in water first, then pour slowly with pumps running.
Powder: Dissolve and distribute evenly.
4. Retest After 2 Hours: Adjust gradually to avoid pH <7.0.
Safety Tip: Wear PPE with liquid acids; never mix with other chemicals.
